Japan - Day 5 (Odawara)

Today we took a bus down from Hakone to the train station.  Jen would not have done well.  It went back and forth down the mountain.

We took the train to ODAWARA.  Here we went to a beautiful castle.  It was originally built in the 1500s.  It was totally destroyed by fire and was rebuilt, as were most of the beautiful places that we saw.

It had bridges and motes and some incredible cherry blossoms. The trees are getting prettier and fuller every day.

After the castle we went to another shrine nearby.  The grounds looked about as stereotypical Japanese as we have seen.  It was very beautiful.

Then we went back into the city and walked around and ate lunch.  All of the construction vehicles look like Tonka toys.  They are much smaller than what we have.   This allows them to transport them on the very narrow roads.

Then we took a couple of trains and came home. Tonight we ate at home and had steak and baked potatoes.  It was a welcome break from Japanese food and chopsticks.

Tomorrow we are driving into Tokyo for 3 days and 2 nights.  We are staying at the armed services hotel.  We plan on going to Tokyo tower and the Imperial gardens tomorrow and then Tokyo Disneyland on Thursday.  Kyle doesn't want to do Disney so he is going off on his own and was able to get a ticket to the Tokyo dome to see a baseball game.
